Jesse Jakob

While Jesse Jakob is a relative newcomer to the global techno scene, he has quietly been building a resume that goes back over two decades. A longtime fixture in the Minneapolis techno community, he has been DJ’ing since the mid-1990’s and his many years of experience have honed his ear to a special strain of music. His sets and productions are reflective of his taste for raw, powerful, stripped down grooves and a control gained only through countless hours of dedication.

After a decade of playing at and organizing one-off events, in 2007 Jesse became a resident DJ when “Black” was launched. A weekly event held at the legendary First Avenue Nightclub, this was Jesse’s first residency and opportunity to curate a monthly party. Black ran for 5 years and played host to many leading figures in contemporary house and techno. Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Peter Van Hoesen, Levon Vincent, Silent Servant, and Anthony Parasole were just a few who performed in the 250 person club. A very intimate party, the small room and great sound system proved to be the perfect recipe for a Saturday night.

It was also during these years that Jesse began a renewed focus in the studio. Having experimented with production and live performance over the years, it finally became a priority and a focal point. The hard work began to pay off when Jonas Kopp signed his first finished tracks to Traut Muzik in 2012.

The Time Resistance EP was released in 2013 with remixes from Jonas Kopp and Kevin Gorman and was well regarded and received heavy support.

After the success of his first record, Jesse’s next two appearances came in 2014 via Par Grindvik’s Stockholm LTD and Pfirter’s Mindtrip label. Both V/A’s, his original works were featured alongside the likes of Markus Suckut, Pfirter, Andre Kronert, Peder Mannerfeldt, Charlton and Simon Haydo.

2015 saw Jesse make a return to Traut Muzik with the Barrage EP; featuring remixes from Pfirter and Exium which was released in January and received early support from Oscar Mulero, Marcel Fengler, Ben Sims, Marcel Dettmann and many more.
